Islam IS NOT SPECIAL

I read in the paper recently that the coastal town of Warrnambool is having trouble attracting and keeping Muslims. For the records, Warrnambool has a population of around 40,000 people and is one of the few country towns that is actually growing in population.

The story I read centered around a request from one of the Muslims in the town to provide funding for a mosque to help attract and keep more Muslim people. The Muslim gentleman quoted in the article works for a meat export company as an overseer of the Halal operations. He ensures that the meat is Halal compliant to be exported to Muslim countries. He was quoted as saying that if the council failed to provide the required facilities he would probably leave the town because his religion was the most important thing to him. He also went on to say that the Muslim families had contributed a lot to the town.

There are in fact only 10 Muslim families in Warrnambool (taken from the article), so I have to question just how valuable their contribution has been. 10 families at an average of 4 people per family = 0.1% of the population.

The chap at the centre of the request even says himself that a Muslim person is not required to ensure the meat is Halal. So tell me, why should the local council fork out cash to fund a mosque? They certainly aren't shelling out ratepayers cash to help other religious faiths in the town.

The article explains that the council is trying to help the local Muslim community find a place they can use as a mosque, but alas, they are not happy with what they have been offered. I am glad to see that the council is making an effort to help accommodate their beliefs, but I really hope the council doesn't give them any money. Despite what most Muslims would have you believe (either forcefully, or with their rhetoric), Islam is not more special than the other religions, and shouldn't be treated as if it is.

Happy Valentines Pay

Like nearly every guy I know, when it comes to Valentines Day, I hate it. I hate that it has been commercialised beyond belief. I hate that it falls 2 weeks after my wifes birthday and 1 week before our wedding anniversary and quite frankly, it all gets a bit much to throw in St V's Day. I hate that, despite the well understood laws of supply and demand and their impact on price, everything is jacked through the roof so doing something special is so costly it makes me feel like I am being ripped off and made a fool of. But most of all I hate that women expect flowers at work and dinner etc and you are made to feel like a stingy piece of shit if you don't comply with these demands.

Don't get me wrong, perhaps I am stingy piece of shit, however, I don't like the feeling of being bullied into showing my love for someone. When it comes to showing the love and affection, I am all for it. In fact, it is fair to say, that when it comes to showing love to my wife, I would spend a fair amount of time thinking up new and original ways of doing so.

I think it is much more special if you do it off your own bat, and on your own terms. I mean really, how special does a girl feel when on Valentines Day she receives flowers at work? This is after all the same day EVERY OTHER FUCKING GIRL AT WORK RECIEVES FLOWERS! Compare this to how special a girl would feel upon receiving some flowers on a cold wintery day in July - with a little note that simply says - "Just because I love you!"

Romance is a truly terrific and beautiful thing. Giving someone you love a surprise treat makes everyone feel better about life. Bullying marketing tactics that guilt guys into doing things, just tends to make people feel - FUCKING ANGRY AT THE WORLD!

Also, why should a guy be made to do all the giving. Surely love goes both ways. My wife and I have adopted a novel apporach to Valentines Day. We flipped for who would do the gift buying and dinner planning etc. We will alternate years. This may be a bit stupid because we have a joint bank account, and, well, we will both still end up paying, but as a concept it sits well with me. I lost the coin toss so next year I am sorting out the romance. I wonder if some of the bigger brothels do a Valentines Day special? I can just imagine it

CJ: do you do a Valentines Day Special for the wife and I?
Brothel: Um, usually it is just for,er, single guys....
CJ: We'll take it!

Just kidding.

Feel the Love. I flows freely - not because someone has told me I have to.

Brokeback Heath

I recently saw Brokeback Mountain. It has created quite a fuss. God knows why, I thought we had all accepted that there are in fact, shock horror, gay people living amongst us everywhere. Well everywhere except the AFL. Anyway, in Australia where we are a very supportive to our performing artists (with the exception a small segment of the paparazzi who deem it appropriate to spray water pistols at Heath. I would LOVE to have seen them try that on Russell Crowe and not - quite deservedly - get their head punched in) there has been much hype about his performance in the film. Talk of Oscar's etc has filled the Australian press.

Now I will be buggered (excuse the pun) if anyone can tell me why you should get an academy award for a movie in which your character, the main character, doesn't actually say anything you can understand. No shit, it is Mumbles Ledger for 2 hours. I defy anybody to tell me what exactly he says at the very end when he is in the tralier home looking at the shirt. This film almost needed subtitles it was that hard to understand.

Look, maybe if Heath really did bend over and take in in the arse - I would be right behind him. Ah, supporting his nomination for an academy award that is.

crazy hypocritical muslims

I know it isn't just me, but I needed to vent on this - the hypocrisy of segments of the Muslim community. Certain segments are so offended by some cartoons of Allah - drawn by people who aren't Muslims, and therefore actually have no requirement to follow the rules of Islam, that they have burned down buildings, demanded beheadings and forced the cartoonists into hiding. The Muslim community say they want tolerance and sensitiveity to their beliefs. Or what, they will torch your house and chop your head off! That's hardly a double standard is it. Tolerance goes both ways.

What is worse, is that it really doesn't seem they want tolerance and understanding at all, they mostly seem to want to pick fights. These cartoons were after all shown months ago, but only now is there an uproar. If the Muslim community, in a logical and respectful way voiced their objections to the cartoons initially and let that be that, most people around the world wouldn't have known or cared about these cartoons. So who exactly do you think it was taking these cartoons and agitating the rest of the muslim world. Psycho extremist bloody muslims thats who.

The hypocrisy doesn't end there either. go into almost any Islamic book store and you will find plenty of literature condemning Jews and Christians and calling for jihad against them. Theres you tolerance and understanding right there.

In yet another great example, here in Australia, the main man Muslin recently denied Osama Bin laden had anything to do with the September 11 attacks. He claimed it was the work of the Jews. uh huh. Oddly, or is that sadly, this load of crap is not limited to just Australia. Clerics around the world often sprout this line. So can anyone tell me why in the middle east protestors of the cartoons were seen cheering and applauding the Sept 11 Hijackers for there wonderful attack on the evil west? Apparently it was the Jews when it is convenient, but, sometimes, it is also the great Muslim martyrs.

look, this religion is, I am sure a beautiful thing. However, it has been so badly corrupted by people so full of hate that it is just getting embarrassing. I am going to make it my mission to continue to expose hypocrisies of the way certain people use Islam. I welcome all open debate and if I am shown that Islam and the way it is practised today is all hunky dory and about peace (as Muslims often like to say - usually just after they have blown up a bus or something), I will be the first to shout it from the roof tops.

Stay Tuned
